+After the renovation works we’ve had a rather silent relaunch of our beautiful world's first recycled plastic dhow - You can now see her sailling in Lamu waters again, showcasing the beautiful side of recycled plastic, and once again covered with the comfortable mats made from repurposed flipflops, that give her the unique identity. 
+

+What happens to plastic after you throw it away? 🤔
+
+Like many kids, Haidhar had no idea! When we did a storytelling photography class, we used our waste management project as the conservation story to be documented. 📸
+
+Starting from the streets of Shela, the class took photographs of waste collection and transportation to Kijitoni Dumpsite. They witnessed waste sorting at Kijitoni Dumpsite and visited @theflipflopi for the first time. ♻️
+
+They couldn’t believe just how much work goes into managing plastic; so there was an immediate mindset shift😃. Feels like the “teach a man how to fish” analogy applies here 💯. 
+

+Shavings, sawdust, offcuts, overflow.
+
+There is a lot of material that ends up as leftover from the process of making recycled plastic material and products.
+
+But nothing is waste!
+We are reusing and recycling every little bit: The bigger pieces get used for tiles or furniture, the smaller pieces get crushed and melted again into new useful material. And some pieces are so cool that we keep them as artwork 😁
