Are you building one? I love that you can upcycle the motion system from an old ender 3

Not immediately but is high on my list. All my cnc machines are currently torn down for electronics upgrades and that is taking up every available inch of space in my very tiny shop.

Ah. Yeah, available real estate is indeed a reoccurring constraint

What are your thoughts on using a rotary EDM process to machine parts for, say, a wood chipper/ plastic shredder, and/or steam turbine?

Also, have you looked at Tesla turbines?

The more axis the better in my book. Overall usable cutting volume of the machine would be the limiting factor, IMO. With my modded Ender 3, I've been able to have .0004 inch repeatability consistently. Mainly from closed loop steppers and backlash compensating in the firmware. So accuracy is there with physical machine movement, EDM wire and power supply tuning could still be a possible issue. I've been wanting to give a Tesla turbine a shot for a while. (edited)

What firmware are you using for the closed loop stepping and backpack compensation? I have a spare printer built from upcycled Prusa and Ender 3 components, but haven't configured the firmware yet - thinking I might use it to experiment with EDM

Marlin 2.something. Last time I compiled it was about year ago so probably whatever was the newest version around that time. I DO remember fighting with settings over and over and compiling for about a week straight. SKR 1.4 Turbo board, S42 closed loop stepper kit with screens, Exoslide gantry Z-belt kit, linear rails on X and Y, some direct drive extruder kit (i've been through like 5 different ones), color touch screen, and some other randoms here and there. It's a dog hair magnet at the moment. When I get my propane heater back from my buddy, for the shop, I'll clean up a corner space and play with it again.

I haven't had much luck deciphering Marlin's documentation, so you're much further along than I am. Kind of gave up and switched to learning Klipper

I havent read any documentation besides the notes left in the code itself
