Curious, is the D3D Pro a corexy or cross gantry printer? Been window shopping for a corexy design to build after my Prusa clone is finished, leaning toward triple independent belted z-axis with linear rods, as to be able to reuse spare parts lying around

If I understand it correctly it’s a Cartesian machine. X rides on dual Y axes but each axis is independently belt driven including Z

I see, so a Cartesian XY. Which I guess makes sense, since the universal axis is designed to drive any of the 3 axes. How's the print quality?

I'd be curious if the universal axis can be adapted to a fully printed frame, like the Rook 3d printer (by Rolohaun) or one of its community mods, s.a., a scalable version that uses 2020 extrusions https://www.printables.com/model/818501-rook-2020-scalable-mk2

The print quality has been good after ironing out the initial bugs! The D3D pro is also readily scalable to pretty much any size you could care to make it. I have future plans for a 24”x24” (610mmx610mm) bed size printer.

I have a few prints in the build pictures and video that show off the quality

Nice! are the STL's available on printables or GitHub or is the wiki still the place to go?

The wiki is the best place to go for now - I will upload anything that’s missing soon :))

I plan to release the printer on a few free sharing sites after I finish the docs :)

Would part of the release include applying for an OSHW cert? https://certification.oshwa.org/
Certification provides an easy and straightforward way for producers to indicate that their products meet a well-defined standard for open-source compliance.
Avatar
The project is meant to be compliant with the certification. The ramps board, arduino mega, and other electrical components are either open source or common off the shelf. The bill of materials calls for a beagle bone single board computer to comply with the suggestion that it be as open source as possible. At the moment I am using a raspberry pi 4 to run an octoprint instance instead of the beagle bone because it was easier to obtain and configure for the time being while I work on ironing out the machine’s bugs.

The firmware is marlin, the web interface is octoprint, so software is all good 👍

The licenses that the documentation pages are released under are the following: CC-BY-SA-4.0 International, GPLv3 Upon completion it should also be compliant with DIN SPEC 3105. (edited)

Nice! Let me know if you need any assistance with the application process, though it looks like you have everything in order.

I also have a Beagle Bone Blue, if you need a beta tester to run the beaglebone implementation

Hey everyone! I got input shaping tuned on the D3D Pro. That means higher print speeds and more accurate prints!

Nice! Where's the accelerometer mounted?
Avatar
Didn’t use one! Marlin doesn’t support accelerometers. I printed test prints that displayed the resonant frequencies of the X and Y axes. Once I had those I printed another set of tests to see how much I had to dampen the vibrations. Once I plugged in the results the printer began to run very smoothly!
Avatar
Oh interesting~ I guess that makes sense, since the Prusa Mk4 doesn't have an accelerometer and runs on Marlin 😅

Will definitely have to give it a shot on my Prusa clone (once it's fully assembled)

Documentation Update!! Check out the new docs for the D3D Pro 3D Printer: https://alexandrialittle.github.io/d3d-pro/ Please pop in and take a look!! I will be continuing to update this website with the most recent version of the printer's docs as I write them. The docs are a work in progress and are stored here on github: https://github.com/AlexandriaLittle/d3d-pro
