Main Text Channels / general / open-source for permaculture

What would the user story or use case look like for permaculture planning?
1:19 AM
basically, taking all open source data about climate/using foss/osh soil analysis tools (like mass spec)

1:19 AM
then outputting a planning schedule, what should be purchased, when it should be planted
1:21 AM
using deep reinforcement learning to optimize polyculture food production based on nutritional needs of inhabitants

So something that involves IoT hardware for data collection + software for data analysis?

@303adastra has reached level 2. GG!
1:22 AM
there is also https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/ you could map plant yields to nutrition to basically try to survive

ideally open source software and hardware integrated and online/remote (or autonomous) capabilities (edited)
1:23 AM
problem is feedback loop is so long
1:23 AM
and indoors has high cost relative to structure
1:23 AM
like, grow lights are uneconomic

Probably not at the level of sophistication you're going for, but I'm currently attempting to use a flight software / embedded systems framework developed by NASA/JPL to monitor my tomato plants as if they were a swarm of satellites. Progress is slow, but I finally got their blinking led example to flash on a Raspberry Pi Pico W earlier today

RED-TOMATO ONE do you read me

(huckleberries for fun)

Nice! When I used to live in Montana, my roommates and I hiked the Danny On trail that was paved with wild huckleberries. Ended up making some large smoothy bowls from all the huckleberries we picked

I've been solar-dehydrating them (edited)

I have to make a wiki page on it eventually, but i want to make a “Surveying Bot” basically a Mars Rover type deal (but way simple power lol, Battery and/or Piston Engine, *not a radioisotope thermoelectric generator lol) that would
  • Scan and/or 360 Photo/Video the Landscape (akin to “Google Streetview” but also map the terrain)
  • Periodically Collect Soil Samples
  • Optionally could also add in Metal Detector and/or Ground Penetrating Radar Modules
  • Weather Station for Microcimate Data
5:29 PM
You could send it out first in theory, but in some areas maybe a brush mower first, but you would send that out THEN all of the samples could be tested/sent off to a lab to be tested, and all that data goes into QGIS
5:30 PM
(Or maybe some custom software suite someday…)
5:31 PM
So you stuff like planning what buildings to put where, stormwater prep, what to do for Soil Upgrading like you said, also stuff like Swales / Subsurface Ripping recommended placement
